SUMMARY:Spring Housewalk
DESCRIPTION:The Wilmette Historical Museum is pleased to announce its 30th annual Spring Housewalk\, "A Stroll in the GLOW." This year's housewalk explores the elegant\, tree-lined neighborhood of southeast Wilmette that includes the charming streets of Gregory\, Laurel\, Oakwood and Woodbine Avenues (hence the acronym "GLOW"). This area of east Wilmette was one of the last to be subdivided. All four homes on the stroll date from the neighborhood's early development around 100 years ago as American residential architecture was breaking away from Victorian excesses to the simplified\, Prairie and Craftsman styles. Visitors will be able to tour inside each home. Housewalk highlights include stunning art glass windows and doors\, beautiful fireplaces\, original 1910s lighting fixtures\, exquisite woodwork and built-in features such as benches and buffets. These homes range from a one-story\, Arts and Crafts gem to a three-story\, Prairie-style sensation. Don't miss this rare opportunity to explore the houses in this tucked-away section of Wilmette. \n\n \n\nGuides will be on hand to enhance the interior tours with details about the history and beautiful\, architectural elements that give each home its unique character. Housewalk ticket-holders will receive an informative brochure about the history\, architecture and early owners of the four homes. The housewalk is a great event for history buffs\, home remodelers\, and for those who are just curious and would enjoy an afternoon stroll and fun outing.\n\n \n\nThe Spring Housewalk is held each year to support the work of the Wilmette Historical Museum in preserving our village's past.
