The Wilmette Historical Museum and the Wilmette Police Department will jointly host a family-friendly Open House on Sunday, May 4, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The two facilities are located along Ridge Road at 609 Ridge Road and 710 Ridge Road. This is a free event for the community.
Residents are invited to step inside the Museum’s historic 1896 building for self-guided tours and a family-friendly game of “Museum Bingo” and a free cookie. Popular exhibits will be open, including the original Gross Point Village jail cell and “Glimmer of Glamour,” our exhibit on evening wear of the 1930s. Our newest exhibit, “Voices of Early Wilmette,” explores life in Wilmette and Gross Point in the 1800s through the words of early residents.
The Police Department is offering free hot dogs again this year, sponsored by the Wilmette Optimist Club. Visitors will receive a complete tour of police facilities including the lock-up and firearms range. Visitors should bring their own cameras for children’s “mug shots.” Other special guests will include the bomb squad, US Coast Guard, canine unit, and more.
