Luxembourgers in Chicago: From North Avenue to Wilmette
The Wilmette Historical Museum will host a virtual lecture via Zoom with Kevin Wester discussing “Luxembourgers in Chicago: From North Avenue to Wilmette.” His lecture will provide a broad overview of Luxembourg immigration during the second half of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, when the Chicago area, including Wilmette, became home to the largest number of Luxembourg immigrants in America.
Mr. Wester was the first, full-time Executive Director of the Luxembourg American Cultural Society. He was knighted by Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and awarded a medallion of merit from the Archdiocese of Luxembourg for his efforts to preserve the ties between Luxembourg and the United States.
The lecture is free to the public thanks to the generous support of museum members and donors. Advance registration by November 6th is required and can be made on the museum website. For more information, visit www.wilmettehistory.org or call (847) 853-7666.
