Filmmaker and professor Michael Glover Smith describes how innovations including Eadweard Muybridge's Zoopraxiscope, a projection device that debuted at the 1893 World's Fair, turned Chicago into the center of the U.S. film industry at the turn of the century. Clips from the early history of film will be shown. This event is free and open to the public and part of the Wilmette Public Library’s One Book, Everybody Reads series, which is featuring Rosellen Brown’s historical novel, The Lake on Fire, this spring.
